01
Born from a conversation
Festival director Zoltán Mészáros traces the idea back to a conversation among friends about Pavarotti performing in the church of a small Austrian village. This raised the question: why couldn't similar concerts of international standing be held in Veszprém?
The venue was obvious: Holy Trinity Square in the castle, whose Baroque buildings surround the stage almost like a natural amphitheatre.
02
Premium music, beyond genre boundaries
VeszprémFest is a premium music festival: the best of opera, jazz, classical, world music and pop perform on its stage. Over the years, artists such as Gregory Porter, Herbie Hancock and the Gipsy Kings have played here.
03
From the castle to the História Kert
In the early years, the concerts took place in the heart of the castle, at the Archbishop's Palace. From 2017 – due to the renovation of the palace – the festival moved to the História Kert. In 2027, VeszprémFest returns to Veszprém Castle.
For four years, the Jesuit Church also hosted a smaller, more intimate series of events.
04
Rosé, Riesling and Jazz Days
In 2011 the sister event, the Rosé, Riesling and Jazz Days, was launched. Alongside the main stage evenings, its wines, local gastronomy and free jazz concerts brought a new audience to the festival.
05
Our mission
Our aim is for Veszprém to be a regional stronghold of world-class music, and for VeszprémFest to remain a fixed date in the calendar of every lover of culture and music.
